It depends on the circuits you want to run. Add up the running power of your essential appliances and allow for start-up surges from pumps, fridges and compressors. A fridge, lights, modem, phone charging and a water pump can often be covered without a very large generator if loads are managed sensibly. We check your generator rating against the circuits in the quote.
It is possible, but a portable generator rarely has enough capacity for everything, and heavy loads such as ovens, air-conditioning or electric hot water can overload it. Most installations connect selected essential circuits instead. We help you choose the circuits that matter most and label the switchboard so the changeover is simple under pressure.
It can, but it needs careful design. Grid-connected solar inverters are designed to shut down when the grid is off, and some battery systems have their own backup outputs and generator inputs. Connecting a generator the wrong way can damage equipment. We review your inverter and battery set-up and design a changeover arrangement that keeps everything safe and compatible.
We leave a simple label at the switchboard and walk you through the steps on the day. In general, you move the changeover switch to the generator position, connect the generator lead to the inlet, start the generator outdoors and then turn circuits on one at a time.
