A 22 kW AC charger is the highest-power AC charging option commonly installed at Australian properties. It draws 32 A on each of three phases, so it needs a strong three-phase supply. It suits businesses, strata car parks and fleet depots where many different vehicles will use the same charger over its life, and where at least some of those vehicles can genuinely use 22 kW.

A supplied and installed 22 kW AC charger starts from $3,490. This is an indicative starting price; the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after we check your supply capacity, switchboard and cable route.

What's included

  • A supply capacity check, including existing peak demand at the site
  • A 22 kW three-phase smart AC charger with access and app control options
  • A dedicated three-phase circuit sized for 32 A per phase
  • Standard wall or pedestal installation with a standard cable run
  • Load management configuration to protect the main supply
  • Installation by our licensed electricians, with testing and a certificate of compliance

Why Blue Energy Solar

Here is the honest part: most electric cars accept 11 kW AC or less, and some are limited to around 7 kW. A car limited to 11 kW charges at 11 kW on a 22 kW charger, no faster. A 22 kW unit still makes sense where some vehicles accept 22 kW AC, where chargers are shared by many users over time, or where future-proofing a site is worth the extra cable and supply cost. If an 11 kW charger would do the same job for your vehicles, we will recommend it instead. We also check that your main supply can carry the load without affecting the rest of the site.

Recommended for

Businesses, strata buildings and fleet operators with strong three-phase supply and some vehicles that accept 22 kW AC.

Vehicle limits: the car's onboard charger decides the charging rate. Check each vehicle's AC charging specification before choosing 22 kW.

Supply: 32 A per phase is a large load. Sites with limited supply may need load management or a supply upgrade, which can require network approval.

Strata: chargers on common property need owners corporation approval, and billing arrangements for residents should be agreed first.

Price drivers: cable size and run length, pedestal mounting, switchboard capacity, access control and network requirements.

Directions

1. Request a quote and list the vehicles that will use the charger.
2. We check supply capacity, the switchboard and the cable route on site.
3. You receive a fixed-price quote, with an 11 kW comparison where relevant.
4. Once approvals are in place, our licensed electricians install and test the charger.
5. We configure load management, access control and the app.

Warnings

The price shown is an indicative starting price for a standard installation; the final fixed price is confirmed in writing after a site check and quote.
A three-phase supply with enough spare capacity is required; supply upgrades need network approval and are quoted separately.
Installations on strata common property require owners corporation approval before works start.
Actual charging speed is limited by each vehicle's onboard charger.
Long cable runs, trenching, civil works or switchboard upgrades are quoted separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only a minority of current models accept 22 kW AC, sometimes as an optional extra, while most accept 11 kW or less. Specifications can change between model years, so check the owner's manual or manufacturer specifications for each vehicle. We are happy to review your fleet or your residents' likely vehicles before you decide.

No. DC fast chargers bypass the car's onboard charger and commonly deliver much higher power, so they add range far more quickly. A 22 kW AC charger is best where cars park for an hour or more, such as workplaces, apartment car parks and depots, and it costs far less to install than DC charging.

Only if it is a dual-outlet model, and then the power is usually shared between the two vehicles. For shared car parks, several 7 kW or 11 kW chargers with load management often serve more drivers better than one high-power unit. We model how many cars need charging and how long they park before recommending a layout.

It could without planning, which is why we check existing peak demand first. Load management can cap the charger's output when the building is busy, and on larger sites it can share capacity across several chargers. If demand still exceeds the supply, we explain the upgrade options and the network approval they need.
