Electricity bills are harder to read than they should be. Supply charges, time-of-use rates, controlled load, demand charges, feed-in credits and discounts that quietly expire can all hide where your money goes. Mistakes also happen, such as estimated readings, the wrong tariff after a meter change or solar credits that don't look right.

Our Electricity Bill Audit reviews up to four of your recent bills and explains what you are paying for in plain English. We check the tariff type and rates, supply charges, usage pattern across the year, feed-in rate and anything that looks wrong, then suggest practical next steps. The audit costs $99; this is an indicative price, confirmed with you when you send your bills.

What's included

  • Review of up to four recent electricity bills for one property
  • Check of your tariff type, such as flat rate, time-of-use, controlled load or demand
  • Comparison of daily supply charges and usage rates across the bills
  • Usage pattern analysis by season and time of day, where the bills show it
  • Check of your solar feed-in rate and credits
  • Flags for possible errors, estimated readings or expired discounts
  • A plain-English digital report with prioritised next steps

Why Blue Energy Solar

We read electricity bills closely whenever we design solar and battery systems, so we know what to look for. The audit is independent: we don't sell electricity plans or take retailer commissions. If solar, a battery or a tariff change could help, we explain why, and if they won't, we say that too. Blue Energy Solar is a New Energy Tech Approved Seller based in Sydney.

Recommended for

Households and small businesses who want to understand their bills, check for errors and see where savings may be possible before spending money.

What we can and can't do. We explain what the bills show and flag possible errors, but only your retailer can correct a bill. If we find a likely error, we explain what to ask them.

In NSW, feed-in tariffs have fallen and are commonly a few cents per kWh, far below the retail price paid for grid electricity, which is commonly 30-45 c/kWh. That means how much solar you use yourself usually matters more than your export credits. For a full comparison of market offers, see our Retail Electricity Tariff Comparison. Bills alone don't show detailed half-hourly usage, so smart meter data gives more precise results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Send your four most recent bills if you can, or bills from different seasons, such as summer and winter, to show how usage changes through the year. Include every page, because tariff details and meter information are often on the back pages. For businesses, include any bills showing demand charges or multiple meters at the same property.

We can tell you which tariff you are on and whether it seems to suit your usage pattern, for example if you use a lot of power at peak times on a time-of-use tariff. Choosing a new plan means comparing current market offers, which our Retail Electricity Tariff Comparison covers in detail for your property.

We explain what looks wrong and why, such as an estimated reading, a missing solar credit or a rate that doesn't match your plan. You then raise it with your retailer, using our notes. If the retailer doesn't resolve your complaint, you can take it to the energy ombudsman in your state, which is a free service.

No. The audit stands on its own and you are under no obligation. If your bills suggest solar, a battery or better energy use could reduce costs, we say so and explain why. If your usage is low or your situation doesn't suit solar, we tell you that honestly, which can save you from an unnecessary purchase.
