Many older homes still have switchboards with ceramic rewireable fuses, limited safety switch protection, or a backing panel that may contain asbestos. These boards were not designed for today's loads, and they rarely have room for the protection devices needed by solar inverters, batteries or EV chargers. That is why a switchboard upgrade is often required before new energy equipment can be installed safely.

We inspect a lot of switchboards before solar and battery installations, so we design upgrades with your energy plans in mind. There is no point replacing a board today and running out of space when you add a battery or EV charger next year. We tell you clearly what must be done for safety and compliance, what is optional, and what it will cost before any work starts. Where possible, we combine the upgrade with your solar, battery or charger installation, saving you a second visit and a second power shutdown.

Why RCBOs: an RCBO protects each circuit individually, so a fault on one circuit does not cut power to the whole house. Under current wiring rules, new and altered circuits need safety switch protection.
Asbestos: older boards may have backing panels containing asbestos. They must not be drilled or disturbed by untrained people, and removal must follow safe work procedures, which can affect the price.
Hidden issues: testing may reveal faulty wiring, missing earthing or deteriorated cables, which must be repaired before the affected circuits can be safely re-energised.
